Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine, sterile needles into the body at specific pressure points that have been shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. The Chinese have mapped these points over a period of two thousand years.

Traditional Acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories regarding the flow of qi (energy) and xue (blood) through distinct meridians, or pathways, that are believed to run through the body much like our nerves and blood vessels. According to ancient theory, acupuncture allows Qi to flow into the areas where it is deficient and away from where there is excess. This activates the body’s qi and promotes natural healing by enhancing the body’s own recuperative powers, immunity and physical and emotional health.

In the modern Western explanation, Acupuncture strengthens the immune system by increasing T-cell counts and endorphins that help relax the body, as well as acting as natural painkillers.

Acupuncture is a safe, painless and effective way to treat a wide variety of medical problems.

Traditional Chinese Medicine encompasses far more than just acupuncture, however. We utilize tui na massage, cupping, electro-acupuncture, qi gong energy work, gua sha, moxibustion and herbal remedies to treat the entirety of the person: mind, body and soul.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy involves using different pressures, movements and techniques to manipulate muscles and soft tissues in the body. With a goal of slowing down your nervous system, massage can be used to release stress and tension, heal injuries and support wellness.

I utilize deep tissue, Swedish, lymph drainage, reflexology, cranio-sacral and dynamic body balancing into sessions, depending on the client's needs that day.

Energy Work

Energy healing is a traditional healing system that restores the balance and flow of energy throughout the body. It works with the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the person and addresses illness caused by excesses, weaknesses and disturbances of the energy flow.

I incorporate reiki, chakra healing, emotional release, intuitive work, crystals and tuning forks (a form of sound therapy) into a session to clear, heal, release and restore the energies of the mind, body and soul.

Herbs

An integral part of Chinese Medicine is the use of Chinese herbs, which can substantially aid in the restoration and maintenance of balance in the body. Herbs are highly specific in their actions and target different aspects of the patient’s disharmony.

The herbs are made from organic substances such as plants, flowers and minerals. Herbs have been proven safe and effective during thousands of years of use.*

Herbal formulas can be specifically designed for the individual needs of each patient. Formulas come in many forms, including herbal teas cooked from raw herbs, prepared pills, powders or tinctures.
